If you needed more evidence that the “mainstream” media is unified in its blind opposition to POTUS Donald Trump despite the fact that he’s turned around the U.S. economy, put record numbers of Americans back to work, and re-established U.S. global leadership, this will do it.
The Boston Globe, which is just another Left-wing establishment rag that doesn’t get as much recognition for being that as, say, The New York Times, The Washington Post, or CNN, has just called for all like-minded newspapers and online media to join in denouncing the president for his labeling of the collective press an “enemy” of the republic, Zero Hedge reported.
“We are not the enemy of the people,” declared Marjorie Pritchard, the deputy managing editor for the paper’s editorial page, in an apparent reference to POTUS Trump’s repeated claims.
This came after the president’s most recent condemnation of the establishment press during a political rally in Wilkes-Barre, Pa., where he told the thousands in attendance the media was ‘fake, fake, disgusting news.”
He added, “Whatever happened to the free press? Whatever happened to honest reporting?” as he pointed to journalists covering the event. “They don’t report it. They only make up stories.”
So, as a way to ‘fight’ the president’s characterizations – or what Pritchard claimed is a “dirty war against the free press” – she has proposed a coordinated editorial response across the United States, The Associated Press reported.
The AP added:
The Globe has reached out to editorial boards nationwide to write and publish editorials on Aug. 16 denouncing what the newspaper called a “dirty war against the free press.”
As of Friday, Pritchard said about 70 outlets had committed to editorials so far, with the list expected to grow. The publications ranged from large metropolitan dailies, such as the Houston Chronicle, Minneapolis Star Tribune, Miami Herald and Denver Post, to small weekly papers with circulations as low as 4,000.
Many newspaper industry groups were also hopping on board the proposal including the American Society of News Editors and even regional organizations like the New England Newspaper and Press Association.
“Our words will differ. But at least we can agree that such attacks are alarming,” noted Pritchard.
“I hope it would educate readers to realize that an attack on the First Amendment is unacceptable,” she continued. “We are a free and independent press, it is one of the most sacred principles enshrined in the Constitution.”
Is she kidding? Unfortunately, no – she isn’t. But let’s face it; her proposal is laughable for so many reasons. (Related: Fake news CNN plants “regretful” Trump voter in attempt to claim POTUS is losing his base.)
For one, the bulk of the establishment and legacy press has been against POTUS Donald Trump since before he was elected. As The National Sentinel notes, the media’s coverage of Trump has been unprecedentedly negative, rising to something like 90 percent. How much more ‘unified in opposition’ can the media get?
For another, how can you claim to be “free and independent” when there is so much groupthink negativity coming out of the press these days? The ‘free and independent’ media are those organizations who are straying from the far-Left criticism (which is often based not on facts but perceptions of the administration). Why should Americans care about the latest unsubstantiated rumor coming out of the White House versus how much better the economy is under this administration?
And finally, where is Pritchard’s outrage over all the social media banning and censorship of conservative and pro-Trump media and voices? How much ink has she dedicated to defending the First Amendment press freedom of Alex Jones, who’s been banned from platform after platform?
She cares about ‘press freedom’ insofar as it pertains to the ‘press freedom’ of establishment rags like hers. Like every other Leftist, she wants liberal media groupthink to be the only voice Americans hear.
